I recorded an album

May 8, 2022 – I stepped in the booth… pushed the button and thought, “what happens if I mess up?” My wife was outside the booth and was so nervous, that she had to leave the area. As the countdown started to create the recording I thought, “I have only played this songs a thousand times… I am good.” Then I started Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue. It used to be that cutting a vinyl record was the ultimate. Then it just died by way of the cassette, CD and then digital downloads. Now… they are making a comeback.

Based on the image above, it’s not much of a comeback, but it’s a comeback. In the booth I thought of all of the folks that came before me. The booth was a novelty that was on the boardwalk of Coney Island, or the top of the Empire State Building. It wasn’t initially designed to record a song, it was more intended to record a short (90 seconds) message to their love ones back home. I thought as I was sounding pretty good, what apologies or regrets have been expressed in this booth… I wonder what secrets and awkward moments have been witnessed by the walls.

In the end it was a true piece of American History. The experience was better than I had hoped. The recording… I think I over sang a little and listening to the outcome, it was scratchy with a lot of treble, making my voice a little higher… it was awesome! I can’t wait to do it again… I wonder if I can get the whole band in there?
